LANSING, Mich. — Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter, Mando “El Toro” Gutierrez, of Lansing makes his debut on UFC Fight Pass July 24, 2020. Gutierrez, 23, will be featured as a bantamweight contendor at the Legacy Fight Alliance (LFA) 86.
“Personally, nothing has changed for me,” said Mando Gutierrez when asked how COVID has impacted his training. “The only thing that has changed is the circle has gotten a little smaller. I feel more focused now than ever.”
Gutierrez was scheduled for a fight in early April which was cancelled due to the pandemic. Though it may have been a disappointment, it was far from a set back. Gutierrez made the most of the “stay-at-home” order and transformed his basement into a gym.
“This is best case scenario for me. I see everybody else and they are getting complacent with their training and getting what they can, but I have maximized everything. I have made my home gym pretty much the best gym I could ever train in,” said Gutierrez. “This is the best I have ever felt and the biggest jumps I have ever made. For me, I am just super excited. You lock me in a house and tell me I can’t do [anything]; this is the only thing I want to be doing."
Gutierrez is affiliated with Lansing’s Murcielago MMA Club. Gutierrez (3-0-0) will go toe to toe with Jeff Jepsen (5-2-0) in the LFA cage. The LFA 86, held in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, will be broadcast on UFC Fight Pass Saturday, July 24th at 9pm Eastern Time.
