Lansing's Mr. Taco reopens, temporarily

The battle to reopen Mr. Taco proved to be worth it as people lined up to get the first bite of a Lansing favorite.

The son of a Mr. Taco founder, Bill Bonofiglo, announced on Facebook Friday the store would reopen for training purposes and the first 50 cars in the drive-thru would be served.

Mr. Taco is located at 3124 South Martin Luther King Jr Blvd.

Nearly thirty vehicles overflowed onto MLK Jr. Blvd.

Drivers say the wait time was long but well worth it.

"I've been waiting since was a teenager for them to come back, as soon as they closed we were so sad," said Danielle Cokonougher. "We are excited to introduce our kids to Mr. Taco because they've never had it before."

For some customers, the short reopening is a trip back in time.

"I used to work here many years ago," said Qiana Flores. "I saw a coworker, so, of course, this is going to be good."

The feeling of nostalgia is the same for Mr. Taco's owner.

"I'm just grateful because we did this for Lansing, we did this for everybody," said Bonofiglo.

The location closed in 2005.

Bonofiglo says customers can expect the same recipes including the red all-meat burritos and homemade taco sauce.

Bonofiglo began working on the reopening in 2015.
