Lansing's Pothole Problem Continues

Posted

As the weather gets warmer more potholes are springing up. The city of Lansing encourages residents to report them. One man came to us after finding out, just because the city claims a pothole is fixed doesn't mean it actually is.

As of April, Lansing has 1,046 pothole reports. One man's report was acknowledged by the city as a "closed" pothole, that wasn't the case.  Lansing public service director Andy Kilpatrick says random popups of potholes are one reason this happens.

"We will have taken care of potholes in the area and a week or more later there may be more that pop up," said Kilpatrick.

Andy Kilpatrick says getting a closed alert from the city could mean they just missed it when they are out filling other potholes and it also could mean someone may have spotted it first.

"There are a lot that get reported from the same location and our staff will go through, and weed out the duplicate requests so we'll have a single work order," said Kilpatrick.

Kilpatrick tells me he doesn't want this situation to discourage people from reporting potholes, and hopes people will continue to let them know when they see a pothole.

"Anyone sees a pothole please report it to us and don't feel like somebody else may have reported it no matter what and we will weed through those duplicates and be out there asap," said Kilpatrick.
