LCC announces 2020 Commencement Speaker

LANSING, Mich. — Lansing Community College will hold its 62nd commencement ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday, May 15, with Michigan Supreme Court Justice Richard Bernstein giving this year’s address. The ceremony will be held at the Jack Breslin Student Events Center on the campus of Michigan State University.

Justice Bernstein became the first blind justice elected by voters statewide to the Michigan Supreme Court in November 2014. He began his eight-year term in January 2015. He is highly respected for his commitment to justice and fairness.

Bernstein blind since birth, has had a lifelong passion to protect the rights and safety of all people, especially those with disabilities. Prior to his election to the Supreme Court, he headed the public service division for The Sam Bernstein Law Firm. Several of his private practice cases have helped set national standards that provide accessibility in public spaces.

He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Michigan and earned his law degree from Northwestern University.
