LANSING, Mich. — LCC’s RISE Institute recently received the prestigious Equity in Education Award from the Michigan Association of Collegiate Registrar’s and Admission Officers (MACRAO) during its 2020 Annual Conference.
Awarded annually the Equity in Education Award is presented in recognition of people or programs that advance higher education in the state of Michigan. MACRAO seeks to showcase innovative and cutting-edge programs that are improving institutions and experiences for students.
LCC’s RISE Institute was created by chief diversity officer Dr. Tonya Bailey. The RISE Institute is designed to equip LCC employees with the knowledge and skills to create an inclusive campus community.
“Lansing Community College remains committed to pedagogical excellence,” said Dr. Bailey. “We are committed to inclusivity and community. Our faculty and staff are at the core of this community and as the RISE Institute enters its second cohort we are thrilled to receive the Equity in Education award from MACRAO.”
This acknowledgment speaks to the hard work and dedication LCC faculty and staff are implementing regarding diversity, equity and inclusion.
“I hope the RISE Institute will prove to be a catalytic force in closing LCC’s equity gaps,” said Dr. Bailey. “Understanding that this initiative is just the beginning of the journey of equity in education we realize that there is more collaborative work to be done in order for significant progress to occur. I am excited that the Office of Diversity and Inclusion’s RISE Institute will play a role for all LCC students, faculty and staff to succeed.”
