Man found in Grand River identified

LANSING, Mich. — Friday, the Lansing Police Department released the name of the man found dead in the Grand River June 28.

According to a department news release, the man was Jose Herrera, 49, of Lansing.

“This death investigation remains open pending final autopsy results, which may take up to 30 days,” the release said.

The department said current information suggests there were no signs of foul play.

Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to call LPD Detective Shannon Thielen at 517-483-6858.

June 28, officers were dispatched to the Grand River near the 1700 block of Roseneath Avenue after a report was made about a body in the water.

Officers were told Herrera was found by a kayaker who said the Lansing man appeared to have been in the water for an extended period of time.

LPD said officers immediately confirmed Herrera was dead after approaching him.
