Man found lurking around homes

Imagine waking up in the middle of the night to find a shady-looking character just hanging out on your front porch. It's happened to multiple families in Jackson County lately.

FOX 47's Alani Letang talked to them.

The people Letang talked with did not get a good vibe when they saw the man lurking outside their homes.

They said he's been seen on their porch, peeking through their windows, and making some cryptic comments. After that he takes off down the street.

Several people in Jackson County told Letang the man has appeared on their porches and looked inside their windows. One woman, who didn't want to be identified for safety reasons, said he knocked on her door one evening.

"And he said 'hey I'm looking for a Stacy' and then he dug around in his pockets, looked down, looked around like he was scoping the place out and I told him that he had the wrong house, and he said 'oh I do?'"

When the man was digging into his pockets, it had her on edge. Especially, she said, with her young son inside the home.

"I wasn't sure whether it was a gun, whether he was trying to break in or what. He could've been here for anything. I have no idea what" she said.

She feels he might be targeting the area after speaking with neighbors. She said she has "talked to other people in the area, who has said he was also been at their home, other people that have cameras that have caught him on camera, people who have said that he's been looking in their windows."

Letang has spoken to a few others who wished to remain anonymous. One told her that she had the same man show up three times looking inside her kids' window before her fiance showed his gun through the window. The resident said when the man saw the gun he took off running, and he hasn't returned.

A third woman caught him on surveillance video. The man knocked on the door and told her "there is (sic) some bad people up the road," while looking around their porch. He left when she asked him to.

All three families are worried. "I fear for my safety, I fear for theirs, and something really needs to be done about this," said Jackson woman.

Jackson County Sheriff's deputies were sent out to one of the houses but weren't able to find the man. Another woman told Letang that she's seen an increased police presence in her area since then.

Jackson police advise people to always report suspicious activity the moment it happens.

You can all 9-1-1 and tell the dispatcher it's for a non-emergency.
