LANSING, Mich. — A man was seriously hurt Wednesday evening after crashing his car into a Liberty Township business.

The crash happened around 9:10 p.m. The driver was the only person inside the car, officials said.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office said the car was headed westbound on East Liberty Road and did not stop at the intersection near Gillette Road. The vehicle went off the road and into the business, which was on the north side of the roadway.

The driver, a 25-year-old from the Jerome area, was taken to the University of Michigan Hospital with life-threatening injuries, deputies said.

The sheriff's office said the man was wearing a seatbelt, but alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.
