MASON, Mich. — Mason Public Schools held two groundbreaking ceremonies on Thursday.
It was all part of its Capital Improvement Project.
The first groundbreaking was held at North Aurelius Elementary at 2 p.m.
The second took place at Alaiedon Elementary at 3 p.m.
Both schools are on the second part of phase one of a bond issue that was passed by the voters in 2017.
The groundbreakings will mark the start of work on additions and school improvements at North Aurelius and Alaiedon.
Spokesperson Sara Parkinson says, "This includes new gymnasiums, additional classrooms, and planned layout changes within the older structures."
"It means so much to our kids. So much to our families. So much for the community. It's just kind of breathing a breath of fresh air to our community in Mason. Mason's on the move. We're really excited about what's going on here," said Ronald Drzewicki, Superintendent of Mason Public Schools.
North Aurelius Elementary is located at 115 N Aurelius Road, while Alaiedon Elementary is at 1723 Okemos Road.
Phase two of the bond will begin in 2021.
