Meridian Township clerk promises no more ballot mistakes

Posted

The Meridian Township clerk is vowing to not let a mistake that confused a lot of voters to never happen again.

Brett Dreyfus says some absentee voters received instructions with their ballots that included straight-ticket voting, which it shouldn't have.

This year, straight-party voting was banned by a recent Appeals Court decision meaning it's not an option this November.

Dreyfus says his office takes responsibility for the mistake.

"We made an assumption that the content was accurate, and that was a mistake that's on my shoulder. I accept responsibility for that. I can assure voters that will never happen again."

Dreyfus also says that his office created similar instructions detailing the correct steps, which have been included in the ballots sent out since the error was discovered.

Absentee voter applications will be accepted for Meridian Township until Monday, Nov. 5.
