LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Hundreds of Muslims visited the state Capitol for a day of advocacy, hoping to make their voices heard.
The ninth annual Michigan Muslim Day is scheduled for Wednesday. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Attorney General Dana Nessel and other top elected officials will speak during the event.
The Michigan Muslim Community Council had workshops on promoting social justice, public safety in places of worship and schools, fighting bullying and other topics.
Mahmoud Al-Hadidi, chairman of the council, says it is honored that elected leaders will welcome Muslims to Lansing. He says the commitment to inclusivity and justices will "inspire many to become active citizens who can make a positive difference in their own localities."
