LANSING, Mich. — Michigan has 161,907 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 7,211 confirmed deaths, the state reported Monday.
The state reported a two-day increase of 3,881 cases and 29 deaths.
Between the two days, the average number of new confirmed cases is 1,940 per day, the state said.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said that if hospitals begin to get overwhelmed as COVID-19 cases increase once again, Michigan could take a step backwards.
Earlier this month, Whitmer moved the Upper Peninsula region back to Phase 4 of the MI Safe Start Plan. Every region in the state is in Phase 4, except the Traverse City area, which is in Phase 5.
