EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State University's former Vice President and General Counsel will get a payout worth nearly a million dollars after he was let go by the university.

Acting MSU President Satish Udpa fired Robert Young last Friday.

Young was brought in by former MSU Interim President John Engler to guide MSU's legal strategy as it dealt with fallout from the Larry Nassar scandal.

Young had more than two years remaining on his contract, worth $425,000 a year.

Michigan State University says Young will receive at least $990,000 as a payout from his contract.

MSU says Brian Quinn, deputy general counsel, will be acting general counsel.
