Neighbors locking up after string of Vevay Township break ins

The people living in Vevay Township say it's always been a peaceful place to live.

“I've lived here 25 years and never had any problems at all," Neil Harrison said.
"We've had an open door policy out here, nobody's ever worried about locking anything,” Gary Strickland said. “Those days are over.”

And now people are locking up. Because neighbors say homes along Dexter Trail and diamond road are getting broken into. Strickland says they stole around 5 thousand dollars of auto equipment from his garage.

"They cleaned me out pretty good," Strickland said. "For a while you feel like a victim, you feel like you've been violated. Now we're just mad. As a community we're just mad about it."
"It's pretty crazy, it's pretty wild,” Paul Oesterle said. “We haven't had this kind of problem before out here."
The sheriff's office says whoever is doing this is mainly targeting things like pull barns and sheds like this one.

"We would really like to see the authorities be able to find whose doing this and get them off the street," Harrison.

The Ingham County Sheriff's Office says they do have some leads. They say there've been more than a dozen break ins throughout the township in the past few weeks.

"Dozen seems like it's some kind of crew going around hitting everybody,” Harrison. “Because it certainly isn't anybody in the neighborhood."

But neighbors are coming together to share a message to the culprit.

"Don't come back,” Strickland said. “We're waiting for you."
