An annual report reveals more than 1 in 5 children in Michigan lived in poverty in 2016.
The 21% or 444,100 children who lived in poverty is an improvement from 23% in 2010, according to the 2018 Kids Count in Michigan Data Book released Tuesday.
The yearly study released by the Michigan League for Public Policy looks at health, education, economic security and family and community as part of an effort to improve conditions for children and their families.
The study found Clinton County ranked in the top five of the over 80 counties surveyed for helping children.
