LANSING, Mich. — Olivet College has again been included in two 2021 U.S. News and World Report Best College Rankings. Olivet College was ranked tenth as a Top Performer on Social Mobility in the Midwest and 46th on the Best Regional Colleges in the Midwest list.

“I am pleased to see Olivet College recognized for its strong performance by U.S. News and World Report,” said Doug Kellar, vice president for enrollment management. “Our continued ranking as a Best College and a Top Performer on Social Mobility is a reflection of the College’s commitment to student success. Robust financial aid opportunities, small class sizes and the graduation rate of our Pell Grant students are strong points of pride at Olivet College.”

The Top Performer on Social Mobility ranking debuted last year, and Olivet College has earned a spot in the top ten both years. Social mobility measures how well schools graduated students who received federal Pell Grants. Pell Grants are typically awarded to students from households whose family incomes are less than $50,000 annually, though most Pell Grant funds are awarded to students with a total family income below $20,000. The ranking is computed from factors assessing graduation rates of Pell-awarded students.

As U.S. News & World Report said, “Economically disadvantaged students are less likely than others to finish college, even when controlling for other characteristics. But some

colleges are more successful than others at advancing social mobility by enrolling and graduating large proportions of disadvantaged students awarded with Pell Grants.”

“These rankings demonstrate Olivet College’s commitment to providing an exceptional educational experience,” Olivet College President Steven M. Corey, Ph.D., said. “We are especially proud to be ranked as a Top Performer on Social Mobility for a second year. The College has always provided an education to all, regardless of race, gender or financial means. This ranking reinforces that mission and defines our commitment on a national level.”

U.S. News & World Report is frequently cited as the nation’s premier college ranking publication. The rankings, which group schools based on categories created by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, are one of the most comprehensive research tools for students and parents considering higher education opportunities.

Factors contributing to general rankings included retention and graduation outcomes, faculty resources, expert opinion, financial resources, student excellence and alumni giving. To review the complete methodology, visit www.usnews.com/collegemeth.
