One-night ban on serving alcohol set for Pennsylvania

LANSING, Mich. — Bars and restaurants in Pennsylvania are upset after being told they’re banned from selling alcohol Wednesday night.

Thanksgiving Eve usually is typically the biggest bar night of the year. With coronavirus cases surging, Governor Tom Wolf says a one-night ban will help limit the spread.

Wolf said when people go out drinking, they are usually in close contact. Some restaurant owners think they’re being treated unfairly.

“To limit no alcohol sales even at a table makes no sense to me,” said Spasso Italian Grill manager Paul Maranca. “I mean, we’re always all about safety, keeping our staff safe, our patrons safe, but we already have no bar service. Nobody can even get a drink and come up to the bar. So why limit people from getting table service?”

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board also says stores have been crushed with alcohol sales. They say many incorrectly believe the ban is for all locations not just bars and restaurants.
