Pair arrested in central Michigan cemetery assault

Posted

Authorities have arrested two people in connection with the assault of a man digging for money in a central Michigan cemetery.

Forty-three-year-old Christie Austin of Evart was arrested Friday by Alma police and 49-year-old Brett Ostrander of Gladwin turned himself into Gratiot County sheriff's officials. The two are accused in the June beating of a 22-year-old Harrison man with a hammer and shovel in a cemetery in Clare County's Hamilton Township.

Warrants had been issued for the pair on charges of assault with intent to murder and assault with a dangerous weapon.

Officials say Austin and Ostrander are being held in Clare County and arraignments are planned for Monday. It wasn't immediately clear if they have attorneys.
