JACKSON, Mich. — Police are still working to identify the body.
They say that may take a while to determine the victim's identity, as well as the cause of death.
They say there were no signs of trauma.
Fox 47's Kellan Buddy asked if the remains might belong to Tanja Stuermer, who has been missing since December.
"Right away that's someone that came to mind that might be tied to this female," said Jackson City Police Director Elmer Hitt. " We didn't even know it was a female until the autopsy, due to the state of the decomposition."
Director Hitt said that the body was so decomposed, it may have been there for months before it was found.
Jackson Police continue to investigate, and they plan to release more information later this week.
