The Bath Township Police Department says over the weekend people trying to sell vacuums or cleaning supplies made their way into a home where they unlocked a bathroom window. The information was given in a Facebook post by the police department:
"It makes me worried for my kids," explains Shane Eddy. "And especially if it's a stay at home mom or somebody around that they could take advantage of."
Eddy is one of many concerned neighbors on Coleman Rd. in Bath Township. That's where police got reports of door-to-door salesmen trying to get into homes.
"It's concerning, definitely because you don't want someone like that coming over to your house and having to deal with it."
Bath Township police say a homeowner let one of the salesmen into her house to use the bathroom, and when they left, she noticed a window had been unlocked.
That wasn't the only report.
"We didn't receive the only call, Clinton county sheriff's office also received some calls," states Avery Lyon of the Bath Township police department.
And based on the different vehicle descriptions descriptions, there may be more than one crew.
"It just goes to show that there's not just one vehicle out there, there's numerous people."
People say they've been experiencing this since December. Other commenters on Facebook say they had these experiences as much as a year ago, and it's stretched all over mid-Michigan.
"In those, you know, people are saying Eaton Rapids, Laingsburg, Perry, so it's all over the place," explains Lyon, "it's not just isolated to Bath or Clinton county in itself, it's all over but throughout those comments the vehicle descriptions are pretty consistent."
Which is why the Bath Township police have a simple suggestion if you find yourself in this situation:
"Just lock your door, call the police. That way you're safer and we can make sure to talk to them first."
