Police warning people about cash app scam

LANSING, Mich. — Police departments across the country are warning people of a new scam involving cash sending apps like Venmo .

The app, which is connected to your debit card, allows you to send cash to other people at anytime.

The scam works like this:

Someone asks to use your phone because they forgot their phone somewhere or their battery died.

Then, they pretend that the person they called did not pick up and will text the person. Rather than texting the person though, they will go into your cash sending app and transfer funds.

They will even delete the app so that you don't receive a notification about the transferred funds.

Experts say you should link your cash sending app to your credit card so that you have more protection.

The scam also includes apps like Cash App, PayPal, or Apple Pay.
