LANSING, Mich. — Sparrow Carson Hospital now boasts new ultrasound equipment that allows higher quality images and streamlines the process so caregivers can interact more with patients and better understand their health needs.

The equipment is in line with Sparrow’s reputation of using technology and innovation to improve care for people in Mid-Michigan.

Higher quality imaging allows radiologists to provide greater detail in their reports to physicians who customize care plans for patients.

The new equipment is both lighter – and therefore easier for caregivers to maneuver – and involves much less time for technologists to operate, allowing them to provide greater attention to patient comfort, “which is especially important when patients are already in pain or uncomfortable,” said Ultrasound Technologist Kimberley Ellickson.

The Sparrow Carson Hospital Ultrasound Department provides more than 3,200 scans a year. Ultrasound is used for guided breast biopsies, arterial imaging, and thyroid scans, among other issues.
