LANSING, Mich. — The sixth annual Sparrow Children’s Center Hair-a-Thon is one of the feel-good events of the year. Community members provide hair for free wigs for children and adolescents who have lost their locks due to cancer treatment or other reasons. The Hair-a-Thon, which coincides with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, is going to look a little different this year due to the pandemic. Instead of having their hair cut on-site, donors have been asked to get haircuts by their own stylist, placed in plastic bags, and then dropped off to volunteers stationed in front of the Sparrow Plaza Building (home of the Herbert-Herman Cancer Center). We still expect an outpouring of support from community members who relish the opportunity to spare their hair for a good cause.
Where: Entrance of Sparrow Plaza Building (across from Sparrow Hospital), 1140 E. Michigan Ave.
When: Saturday, Sept. 12, 9 a.m. to noon.
