EAST LANSING, Mich. — Despite East Lansing passing an ordinance for the electronic scooters, there's none to be found.
“We have since licensed two companies,” Nicole Bartell, city manager assistant.
“Both Gotcha and Spin received full licenses to operate within the City of East Lansing but they have not come back with their scooters yet.”
Popular companies like Lime and Bird didn't apply for licensing.
East Lansing City Council Member Shanna Draheim told FOX 47 News in a statement she believes the companies are waiting for MSU to issue a single license.
“Some staff think that it might have to do with Michigan State University RFP for a sole source provider,” Bartell said.
Fox 47 reached out to MSU to find out more about the request for proposal but calls and emails were not returned.
Draheim says it might not be economically feasible for electronic scooters to operate in East Lansing without a license for campus.
Fox 47 also reached out to electronic scooter companies Gotcha and Spin to find out what's the hold-up on putting out their scooters.
