Stacey Abrams files lawsuit in Georgia governor race

Posted

The Georgia Democratic Party and its gubernatorial candidate is suing in federal court, asking for rejected absentee ballots and provisional ballots be counted in the state's governor race.

The lawsuit filed by Stacey Abrams' campaign is challenging the rejection of more than 1,000 absentee ballots that were rejected in two metro Atlanta area counties.

Republican Brian Kemp, who is running against Abrams, did not respond to the lawsuit.

If the suit is successful, it would prevent election officials from certifying the count totals and could restore the votes that weren't counted.
