Dear Families of Okemos Public Schools:
On behalf of the Board of Education, I want to let you know that Superintendent Alena Zachery-Ross has resigned from her position effective June 30, 2018, in order to pursue other interests.
The Board thanks Mrs. Zachery-Ross for her service to the district. Among her notable contributions was progressing the district’s Equity Plan to create an inclusive and safe culture for our students, families, faculty and staff. She is a passionate educational leader and we wish her the best in her future endeavors.
At our meeting tonight, the Board of Education appointed Dr. Catherine Ash as interim superintendent of Okemos Public Schools.
For more than 20 years before her retirement last year, Cathy served as a dedicated leader for Okemos Public Schools in a variety of administrative roles, including seven years as superintendent. Her knowledge of the district, its faculty, staff, families, and students will be invaluable during this time of transition.
Dr. Ash will serve in this role while the Board of Education conducts a search for a permanent superintendent.
The Board of Education will continue to provide updates during this transition and the search process. As always, your thoughts and comments are welcome. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Dean Bolton
President, Board of Education
