EAST LANSING, Mich. — On Friday, August 7, at 7:00pm, Broadway star Paul Canaan (Legally Blonde, Miss Saigon, Kinky Boots) will host the culmination of this year’s TAKE IT FROM THE TOP summer program. Presented virtually this summer, TAKE IT FROM THE TOP 2020 was staffed by 17 Broadway professionals, including Tony Award® winning Broadway director/choreographer Jerry Mitchell (Legally Blonde, Hairspray, Pretty Woman, On Your Feet) and actors Caroline Bowman (Frozen) and Courtney Reed (who originated the role of Princess Jasmine in Disney’s Aladdin). The staff worked with more than 150 students from across the country, in Wharton Center’s five-day musical theatre intensive.
“We are excited to give Wharton Center fans a behind-the-scenes look at all the fun we had sharing with the students this year,” says Canaan. The exclusive showcase, which will be viewable from Wharton Center’s website (whartoncenter.com) as well as our YouTube channel, features performances of Broadway hits by this year’s TAKE IT FROM THE TOP students, along with a glimpse into what the students learned at the popular summer program.
TAKE IT FROM THE TOP is a series of thrilling, hands-on workshops offered through Wharton Center Institute for Arts & Creativity. Participants – from second graders to adults – receive a unique opportunity to train with a talented team of leading Broadway professionals.
