LANSING, Mich. — A mother reported missing in Lansing has been found and has been arrested, according to Lansing police.
Ashley Shade had been missing since March 18. Her newborn baby was found dead inside a car in Lansing a day later.
On Thursday, police announced Shade had been found and was arrested in north Lansing "on outstanding previous criminal charges from several jurisdictions," a news release said. Ashley is currently lodged in the Lansing Police Detention facility.
Police said Shade gave birth at home and did not seek medical attention for herself or the baby. Her family previously said she hid her pregnancy.
Her daughter's body was found March 19 in Shade's car near the corner of Washington Avenue and Kilborn Street, south of Old Town. The cause of death has not been determined.
