LANSING, Mich. — Despite being found with his paws bound, he's walking and playing like a normal kitten, but the Humane Society and Animal Control still need your help finding out who zip-tied the kitten's paws.
Just 24 hours ago, the four-month-old kitten was rushed to the Capital Area Humane Society with zip-ties tightened around its front and back paws. A good Samaritan had found him when she was walking her dogs.
"He was found very quickly, and for that reason he is doing great," Capital Area Humane Society CEO Julia Willson said. "Whoever found him saved his life, there's no doubt."
When he got there, the Humane Society needed to document what happened to him for evidence.
They say animal cruelty cases are unfortunately common, but that doesn't make them any less appalling.
"As you can see, this kitten is very friendly, very social with people, very trusting and loving so it makes him almost more of a victim in the capacity that he didn't really see this coming," Willson added.
The kitten is currently recovering but is now considered "evidence."
Amazingly, he didn't suffer any serious injuries.
"What happened to him should have really resulted in significant injury. I think if it had been that way for any amount of time, even multiple hours, or certainly even like 24 hours, he would have lost circulation in his paws."
For now, the kitten is staying at the Humane Society while the investigation continues.
And if you were looking to adopt him....you're going to have to wait.
"We'll keep him here safe and happy. If somebody wants an orange kitty, we have lots of orange kitties. But this one is going to have to stay with us for a couple of weeks," Willson said.
This is still an open case and the reward for information leading to a conviction is now up to $1,500.
Anyone convicted of killing or torturing an animal in Michigan can face up to 10 years in prison.
