A local teen is heading to Paris for a 6 week intensive program at the elite culinary arts school, Le Cordon Bleu. Billie Adams, a sophomore at Community Public School in Ann Arbor, says for as long as she can remember, cooking and baking have been passions for her.
Last year, after a visit to Paris and a trip to Le Cordon Blue, she made quite the impression.
"In August, they said they we're going to be in the US, can we interview you?", she recalls.
Billie said yes and after a 3-hour interview she found out she'd been accepted into the school's Intensive Patisserie Program. She says she was then told by admissions that she was the youngest person to be admitted into this program.
"They said we don't normally do this, but we see great passion and aspiration by you to do this later in life as your goal, so they brought me in. Le Cordon Bleu for cooking is like the Harvard or Yale for law. It's the best of the best," she says.
For six weeks, Billie will be learning from some of the best in the culinary world in baked goods, cakes and sugar sculptures. She says the opportunity just gets her closer to realizing her dream of one
day opening her own restaurant. She says it's also a reminder that it's never too early to start working on your goals.
"I hope it will help me expand to different places and back home here in Ann Arbor .. and push my boundaries when it comes to cooking. You can still push for things. Age doesn't really have a limit on what you're able to do with your life," she says.
