Two Michigan lawmakers say they are working to get rid of the tampon tax and say it unfairly charges women.

Reps. Brian Elder and Tanisha Yancey have proposed a bill that would prohibit the state from charging sales tax on tampons, pads and other women's sanitary items.

Right now, there is no sales tax in Michigan for food and medicine, but women's sanitation products are classified as "luxury items."

Those against repealing the tax say the state would lose millions of dollars each year in revenue.

If passed, Michigan would join 10 other states in exepmting tampons and pads from sales tax.
