Creative healthy snacks for kids

Posted
and last updated

We know for a fact that our kids do not eat this much at school or daycare, but during the stay-at-home situation, they are bottomless pits! (I speak from experience.) Here are some handy snacks that are fun and have a sense of nutrition to them, as well...for the most part. Hey! They are kids.

APPLE SMILES

Instead of just handing over an apple, take two slices, put peanut butter on one. Place four small marshmallows on top of the peanut butter, in a row. Wedge another slice on top of the marshmallows, on an angle so you end up having a toothy smile.

BANANA SUSHI

I was shocked when I heard my daycare provider say that my son likes bananas and peanut butter rolled in a tortilla! Then I tried it and it’s pretty darn good. You can make little sushi rolls by simply slicing it. If you have chopsticks, let the kids have fun. For the little ones, it actually works their fine motor skills.

PANCAKE MUFFINS

Put a fun spin on your pancakes and give them something that can actually work a as a snack all day long with these Pancake Muffins.

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Have the kids help mix up the batter, adding fruit and nuts or go the savory route with some cheese, spinach, et. Poor them into a greased mini muffin pan, cook for about 10 to 12 minutes. You can actually make extras, freeze them, and thaw as needed.

PEPPERONI CHEESE STICK CRESCENTS

I admit, I am the one who eats a lot of string cheese in our house, but we all love pizza. Take a tube of crescents, roll it out, separating the triangles. Lay down some pepperoni, put down a cheese stick, roll it up. Bake as directed on the tube. Dip in marinara or ranch. Delicious!
