With just over two weeks until Election Day, local candidates are making their final campaign pushes.

One of the most heated and expensive races this year is the battle between Mike Bishop and Elissa Slotkin for the 8th District congressional seat.

Bishop on Monday accused Slotkin of lying about his record when it comes to protecting people with pre-existing medical conditions.

"The truth is that I have had a very long record, a 19-year record of protecting people with pre-existing conditions," Bishop said. "My wife is here today because she too has a pre-existing condition. This is important to me. It's an important thing for you. And it shouldn't be something's that's used in the political realm as a weapon."

Slotkin's campaign issued a response claiming Bishop repeatedly voted to gut protections for people with pre-existing conditions, including voting to fully repeal the Affordable Care Act.
