CNN is projecting that Democrat Haley Stevens has won election to Michigan’s 11th Congressional District, beating out Republican Lena Epstein in Tuesday’s midterm election.

She was appointed Chief of Staff for President Obama’s Auto Task Force in the U.S. Treasury Department.

Stevens, who is from Rochester Hills, flipped the seat from red to blue and will take over the seat currently held by Republican Dave Trott who decided not to seek re-election after two terms.

The battle was hotly contested with major supporters on both sides. It is one of two important seats in the state that could have flipped from Republican to Democrat.

Epstein, who is from Bloomfield Township, is a supporter of President Donald Trump.
