A new Detroit Free Press, EPIC MRA poll is showing the midterm election in Michigan is tightening up.

The poll found that in the race for Governor neither major party candidate holds a clear majority of support. Democrat Gretchen Whitmer is still leading Republican Bill Schuette. However, the margin is now only 5 points.

Whitmer has 46% of the vote, while Schuette has 41%. Libertarian Bill Gelineau is polling at 3%. Seven percent of the electorate is either undecided or refused to answer.

In September, Whitmer was polling at 45%, Schuette was polling at 37%, and Gelineau was polling at 2%. At that point, 11% of people did not pick a candidate.

The race for US Senate shows Debbie Stabenow with a 7 point lead over John James. Stabenow is polling at 49%, while James is polling at 42%. Five percent say they would vote for another party's candidate.

Stabenow's support has fallen from 56% in September, while James's has risen from 33%.

When it comes to the US House of Representatives, the Democrats still hold the lead in the generic ballot over the Republicans by a 48% to 43% margin. However, that is down from 49% to 41% in September.
