Republican incumbent Mike Bishop has conceded the race for Michigan's 8th Congressional District to Democrat Elissa Slotkin.

Slotkin, from Holly, previously worked in both the George W. Bush and Obama presidential administrations and unseated the two-term Republican.

While the race hasn't officially been called, with 98 percent of precincts reporting, Slotkin has a lead of more than 2,000 votes.

Bishop, who is from Rochester, served in both the State House and State Senate before being elected to the U.S. House in 2014.

She will be the first Democrat to represent the 8th district since Debbie Stabenow served from 1997-2001.
