Harvey weakens to depression, rain continues

Posted

Nearly five days after making landfall as a Category 4 hurricane late Friday, Harvey was finally downgraded to a tropical depression on Wednesday evening, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The National Hurricane Center said that top sustained winds dropped to 35 MPH at the 7 p.m. CT advisory.

Harvey had maintained tropical storm status since Saturday. Harvey was able to maintain its strength by staying along the Texas coast until Tuesday, dumping copious amounts of rain in the Houston area.

On Wednesday morning, Harvey came onshore near Lake Charles, Louisiana.

The tropical depression is expected to continue dumping heavy rain into Tennessee and Kentucky through Friday.
