Armada-based Blake's Hard Cider has introduced a new kinder cider that will benefit a Detroit nonprofit that helps homeless women.
The Saint Cheri cider is part of Blake's philanthropic product series. They partnered with Empowerment Plan, which is based in Detroit and employs and trains homeless women to make a garment that serves as both a coat and sleeping bag. Those coats are then distributed to homeless people in Detroit and throughout the country at no cost.
“The Blake family has always been dedicated to supporting those in need, and we are honored to be involved with a Detroit nonprofit that is dedicated to making a difference in such a unique way,” said Andrew Blake, owner and founder of Blake’s Hard Cider.
Saint Cheri is a limited-edition bourbon barrel-aged semi-sweet hard cider made with Michigan-grown Montmorency cherries. it's one of three Kinder Cider rotating limited-edition cider that helps support and raise awareness on social and environmental issues.
The cider will be sold in 12-ounce, six-pack cans in 18 states.

From our very first interaction, everyone at Blake's has been genuinely invested in the individuals we serve and gone above and beyond to help spread the word about our mission. It is only with the support of companies like Blake's that we are able to have the impact we do,” said Erika George, chief development officer, Empowerment Plan.
The cidery will hold a release celebration on Nov. 22 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the tasting room in Armada. They will take donations of winter hats, gloves, socks and more.
There will also be Saint Cheri merchandise on sale at the tasting room with 100 percent of the proceeds being donated to Empowerment Plan.
