Protesters gather in Lansing as lawmakers certify election

LANSING, Mich. — Hundreds of protesters gathered in front of the State Capitol to protest as lawmakers work to certify the election.

The crowd, many of them carrying signs saying 'Stop the Steal', was there to support President Donald Trump. His early afternoon speech from the White House was being broadcast over a loud speaker.

"Personally I feel that the election has been stolen and that it is fraudulent and there is proven fraud by the mail-in ballots and the way they handled that," said Pam Hasselbach. "And, I'm down here to seek justice, to get a re-count, to have somebody pay attention to the actual votes."

Several people told our crew they were down there just to see what was happening.

"It’s unfortunate that so many people have bought into the misinformation and lies around the election," said Sam Inglot, Deputy Director at Progress Michigan. "From the local, state, federal level. Folks form both parties. Election officials from Democrats and Republicans, judges appointed by members of both parties, have concluded that this election was safe, secure and accurate and its unfortunate that Donald Trump you know is trying to bulldoze over our democracy and continuing to spread lies that really only weaken trust and confidence in our Democratic process."

Patsie Gaffner, from Haslett, said she was there "supporting a nation under God."

Several people also spoke from the steps of the Capitol Wednesday afternoon.

Luben Mliakoff, who says he escaped from Bulgaria four years ago, was in Lansing Wednesday because he feels "they are trying to turn this country into a communist country. And people are asleep and they don't see it."

This of course all happening as lawmakers in Washington DC work to certify the election.
