An Army veteran in Oxford survived the Vietnam War and has beat multiple bouts with cancer.

Despite his service to country and his current battle with lung cancer, his freedom was taken after his customized golf cart was stolen from his rural home.

His family said it disappeared Thursday night.

Jerold "Fuzz" Lovely sits in his living room hooked up to an oxygen tank. His mobility is limited. He explained how the golf cart gave him freedom to explore his 10 acre property.

"Running down, getting the mail, running taking the garbage down the road," Lovely said. "I got hills and run over with the golf cart smash it down."

The family said they usually park it in the garage, but it stopped running Thursday during the day in the driveway and was stolen overnight.

"You put all that time and energy in and my son helped me work on it," son Jamie Lovely said. "Then 'Poof' it's gone!"

It was a retirement gift from Jamie, who said he put countless hours making improvements and adding custom designs to make it more driver friendly for his father.

"That golf cart meant a lot to the whole family, because it was nice to see Pops getting out of the house and do a couple things," Jamie said.

The frustration is felt throughout the family. His young grandson Luke Lovely enjoyed the rides with his grandfather.

"Me and my cousins came over and we got to ride on it," Luke said. "It was always fun to ride on it."

If you have any information about the crime you're urge to call the Oakland County Sheriff's Department.
