Travel Channel has unveiled its Summer Travel Forecast just months ahead of the biggest travel season.
The study highlights Americans' preferences for summer vacations, including "where travelers are headed, how long they are vacationing and where they are staying."
The network predicted Americans will spend nearly $255 billion on summer vacations.
Research from the study found:
- Over half of Americans don’t feel the need to take one momentous summer vacation, with 53% planning to take weekend trips monthly+.
- 55% prefer several summer weekend getaways to one momentous summer vacation.
- 81% of people say they would love to take a road trip, increasing to 87% among those with kids.
- 63% of Americans would rather visit the beach than the mountains, and 55% would rather visit the countryside than a city.
- 51% of those polled who have kids state that major cities are too expensive.
- 89% are interested in staying in hotels and 77% are interested in staying in a rental house when on vacation, 80% of whom are those with kids.
- 57% agree they sometimes enjoy cooking while on vacation.
- 58% find new places to vacation based on recommendations from family and friends.
This survey was conducted online by Open Mind Strategy on behalf of Discovery Digital Studios, fielded February 1 - February 4, 2019, among 2,078 nationally representative respondents.
