Residents of Detroit's Woodbridge neighborhood gathered Saturday to remember Wayne State police officer Collin Rose, who was shot and killed while on-duty.

Several police officers attended the vigil, which included a march from Scripps Park on Grand River and Trumbull to the spot where Officer Rose was shot.

"I think that's huge; it just shows the character of this officer did and the mission we have out here," said Chief Anthony Holt, of the Wayne State University Police Department.

Tamara French and her neighbors organized the vigil on Facebook, and said the outpouring of support for Officer Rose has been overwhelming.

"It just shows that we are a strong community; we care about each other and we care about the police," French said.

Lt. Patrick Saunders, who worked closely with Officer Rose, said his life was dedicated to serving the Wayne State community. Rose will continue to help others by donating his organs, Saunders said.

"There's a reason he checked that (organ donation) box," Saunders added.

Woodbridge residents are planning to honor Officer Rose by building a statue of him with a K-9. Local artists can submit their designs to woodbridgeneighborhooddetroit@gmail.com.
