One local dog owner has been putting her canine to educational use by going around to elementary schools and allowing kids to read to it.
Teachers say this helps students who are struggling reading, build up confidence.
“They’re building up their fluency skills and also their comprehension skills and we are so grateful for Lucky and Miss Jan,” Eastine Crenshaw said.
Jan Britton has been bringing dog Lucky to 14 different classrooms in different schools for the past four years. Over that time they’ve helped more than 1,000 students improve their learning.
“We have some simple books they can start with and then by the end of the year they are bringing out their own and they can read the words without any help,” Britton said.
