The Battle Creek Board of Education discussed a plan for reopening schools during its meeting Monday night, with kindergarten through fifth grade students returning to the classroom five days a week.
Students in grades 6 through 12 would continue remote learning five days a week for at least the first nine weeks. The district would look at whether or not mote learning should continue at that point.
Families of the younger students could still switch to remote learning if they do not feel comfortable with in-person, and a full-year virtual learning option will be available for students of all grade levels, Superintendent Kimberly Carter said.
Masks would be required for all students and staff returning to the classroom, and all students will get Chromebooks.
All students would move to remote learning if the state moves back to Phase 3 of its reopening plan.
The board will vote on the plan Aug. 3. Parents will be able to ask questions ahead of the vote during a Facebook Live at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
