Shea Patterson threw two touchdown passes, including one of 79 yards to Donovan Peoples-Jones, and No. 6 Michigan beat No. 24 Michigan State 21-7 on Saturday.

This is Michigan's first road win against a ranked opponent since the 2006 season.

Patterson's six-yard touchdown pass to Nico Collins opened the scoring in the second quarter.

Ben Mason added a five-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to give the Wolverines a 21-7 lead.

Michigan State scored on a four-yard touchdown pass from Darrell Stewart to Brian Lewerke in the third quarter, in a play reminiscent of the Philadelphia Eagles' trick-play touchdown pass to Nick Foles in the Super Bowl.

The rivalry game, which featured pregame confrontations between players from both teams, was delayed by approximately 75 minutes by inclement weather in the first quarter.

UP NEXT: Michigan State (4-3, 2-2 Big Ten) hosts Purdue next Saturday, while Michigan (7-1, 5-0 Big Ten) has its bye week.
