(WXYZ) — The Michigan High School Athletic Association announced Wednesday its regular-season calendar for indoor winter sports. Under state COVID orders, winter sports are allowed to restart Saturday, Jan. 16 after being paused since Nov. 18.

Girls and boys alpine skiing was allowed to resume its season on Dec. 21 because activities take place outside.
Once the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services lifts the state-mandated pause, indoor practices will begin again on Jan. 16, and first competitions will take place on Jan. 22 for basketball, bowling, ice hockey and swimming & diving. On Jan. 25, competitive cheer, gymnastics and wrestling will continue.
“The Council has been working to give schools as much local flexibility as possible while putting together their winter seasons schedules,” MHSAA Executive Dir. Mark Uyl said. “This flexible planning has been required of us all since June, and we will continue to advocate for kids in all seasons with our continued goal of three seasons played to completion.”
