Michigan tops Michigan State in 'Duel in the D' for third straight year

DETROIT (WXYZ) -- Nolan Moyle scored two goals and Michigan beat Michigan State 5-2 Saturday night in the 'Duel in the D' at Little Caesars Arena.

Michigan has now won the event three consecutive years. Michigan State won the inaugural game in 2016 at Joe Louis Arena.

Dakota Raabe and Will Lockwood scored three minutes apart in the 1st period to give the Wolverines an early lead. Moyle's first goal 2:36 into the 3rd period made it 3-0.

Mitch Lewandowski scored a pair of goals for the Spartans in the 3rd period before Luke Morgan and Moyle each scored empty net goals for Michigan.

Michigan improves to 165-135-24 all-time against Michigan State.
