(WXYZ) -- Detroit Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer and his wife Kelsey welcomed their second child Friday night.
Tigers manager AJ Hinch shared the news Saturday morning that Fulmer had left camp to be with his family in Oklahoma, adding that mom and baby are doing well.
"He will not make that second game start as we planned," Hinch said. "We were trying to beat (the baby's arrival) with the start on March 1, but we didn't accomplish that."
The team announced Kyle Funkhouser would start in place of Fulmer on Monday against the New York Yankees.
"(Fulmer) should return early next week," Hinch said. "He'll have a process to get back in, obviously some testing he's got to do. But they'll work through Major League Baseball with that stuff, to work with these guys when they have situations like this."
