The Red Wings added a right-handed shot on the blue line Steve Yzerman was seeking.

Troy Stecher agreed to a two-year deal with Detroit.

The 26-year-old spent the last four seasons with the Canucks. In 69 games, he had five goals and 12 assists, registering a plus-10 rating.

Yzerman already cut ties with Madison Bowey, Jonathan Ericsson, and Trevor Daley. He has indicated he would like the organization's younger defensemen to develop in the minor leagues or overseas. The Red Wings added Marc Staal via trade and signed Jon Merrill.
