DETROIT (WXYZ) -- Several Detroit Tigers players shared farewell messages to retiring manager Ron Gardenhire in a video shared by the team.

Gardenhire announced his immediate retirement prior to Saturday's game.

"Gardy, I appreciate what you do for the team," said Miguel Cabrera. "I appreciate what you do for me. Thank you very much for everything."

"I could only ask for an opportunity, and you gave me one," said Niko Goodrum. "You believed in me, you gave me a chance to prove myself day in and day out."

The video also featured an appearance by Gardenhire's son Toby, a minor league manager in the Minnesota Twins organization.

"Dad, it's been a heck of a run," said Toby Gardenhire. "I've learned a lot from you. I'm excited for your retirement, I'm excited to play some golf, and I know you're excited to see the grandbabies. We're all excited to hang out with you a lot more. So try not to get kicked out of the house by mom like you got kicked out by these umpires all these years."
